Ironman 2 has a lot of titles: the first sequel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the movie that aired on FX almost every other night between 2011 – 2013, and the film that introduced Black Widow. Well what if I told you that film had a secret cameo of another web-based hero?
That’s right everybody, Ironman 2 had a secret Spider-Man cameo. And if you’ve ever seen the movie, you probably have a pretty good guess at where that cameo was.
During the final arc of the film, Ironman had to defend the Stark Expo guests from an army of hacked Hammer Drones. At one point, a Hammer Drone aimed at a small kid who was wearing an Ironman mask and a fake repulsor glove. Wait a second. A kid, at the Stark Expo (in Queens) who has an affinity for gadgets… could it be? For many years, there was an ongoing Fan Theory that that kid was actually a younger Peter Parker. Well fast forward 7 years and not only is Peter Parker all grown up but also confirming this Fan Theory.
“I can confirm that as of today,” Holland said. “I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.”
And as if Tom Holland confirming these details weren’t enough, Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts also confirmed this Easter Egg to Phase 1 MCU era as well as teased others which you can learn all about July 7th when Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters.
SPOILER WARING: [[ At the end of Avengers, there was a lot of alien tech lying around. As we know in Avengers: Age of Ultron, a lot of that tech ended up with SHIELD/ Hydra, but they weren’t the only ones to clean up the area. Michael Keaton’s Vulture and other villains in this film originally served as the clean up crew of that event – thus explaining where they got their tech. ]]
