If the weight of the world was on your shoulders, or rather…the weight of the universe, you’d probably spend your life hoping that the journey to keeping it safe would be an easy one. The story isn’t so easy for a man named Roland Deschain who is on a mission to make it to the Dark Tower – which holds the universe together – and to save it from Walter Padick, also known as the Man in Black.
The Dark Tower follows an 11-year-old boy who has dreams of the Dark Tower, the Man in Black and the Last Gunslinger. When no one believes him, he goes to find proof himself and ends up meeting the last Gunslinger. The two set on a journey to save, well…everything, but their path is anything but easy.
The premise of the film is as follows.
‘Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) is a young 11-year-old adventure seeker who discovers clues about another dimension called Mid-World. Upon following the mystery, he is spirited away to Mid-World where he encounters the lone frontiersman knight Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), who is on a quest to reach the ‘Dark Tower’ that resides in End-World and reach the nexus point between time and space that he hopes will save Mid-World from extinction. But with various monsters and a vicious sorcerer named Walter Padick (Matthew McConaughey) hot on their trail, the unlikely duo find that their quest may be difficult to complete.’
The initial trailer for the film was released a month ago but during the BET Awards, a new trailer was released focused on Idris Elba’s character – Roland Deschain. The trailer also shows Stephen King talk about Idris in his role and how important The Dark Tower is to him. After watching this trailer, maybe even more so than the first one, we are absolutely certain no one could have played the role of Roland better. There’s also no one better cut out for the role of Walter Padick.
‘I do not aim with my hand, I aim with my eye. I do not shoot with my hand, I shoot with my mind. I do not kill with my gun, I kill with my heart’
Idris embodies everything that the ‘Gunslinger’ is and we cannot wait to see him take on the role. As far as action movies go, quite frankly, we can’t remember a time we were this excited to see a film.
Are you going to see The Dark Tower when it debuts August 4th? Let us know.
