‘Wonder Woman’ Just Earned the title of Highest-Grossing Live-Action Film Directed by a Woman
Since Wonder Woman’s debut, and honestly, in the months leading up to the film’s premiere – it was hailed as a movie about powerful women and what it means to encourage other women to be powerful too. The film, after it’s debut, broke records, wowed audiences, and didn’t just live up to the hype – it surpassed it.
Recently, Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. President of Domestic Distribution talked to HuffPost about the success of Wonder Woman and the new record it just broke.
‘It’s an incredible achievement when you look at the success of this movie.’
The film is now the highest-grossing live-action film directed by a woman. Which is quite a massive honor once you think about the live-action films directed by women. However, fans of Wonder Woman aren’t exactly surprised, and neither is Goldstein who went on to say that the movie touched everyone – not just women.
‘The real story is the fact that Princess Diana has really hit everybody ― young and old, male and female. It’s truly a four-quadrant movie. The universal themes of what ‘Wonder Woman’ stands for are really positive. When you look at what Patty Jenkins put together in a movie, it really is fun.’
Vanity Fair showed the statistics in relation to another massive film directed by a woman, Mama Mia!.
‘Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot as the eponymous Amazon warrior, is now the highest-grossing live-action film directed by a woman in the world, ever. As of this weekend, the film has earned $635 million worldwide, beating out the $609.8 million of 2008’s Meryl Streep-starring Mamma Mia!, directed by Phyllida Lloyd.‘
