‘Tremors’ TV Reboot Starring Kevin Bacon Gets a Pilot Order at Syfy
It’s time to start brushing up on your ‘Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon’ skills because Bacon is back! Syfy announced on Monday that Kevin Bacon will be reprising his role of Valentine McKee in a brand new small-screen reboot of the 1990 film Tremors. The series has received a pilot order at Syfy. Bacon also confirmed the news via an AMA on Reddit.
The reboot series will pick up 25 years after the original film when the giant Graboid worms return to terrorize Perfection, Nevada. Once again, the town’s only hope of defeating the monstrous creatures lies in the hands of Valentine McKee (Bacon). He’s defeated them once before but, this time, he has to overcome the challenges of age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex all which stand in the way of his victory. The new series pilot will be written by Andrew Miller (The Secret Circle) who will also act as showrunner and executive producer. David Schiff (Southpaw) and Bacon will also serve as executive producers.
In a statement to the press, Bacon commented on reprising the role:
“This is the only character I’ve played that I’ve ever thought about revisiting. I just got to thinking, where would this guy end up after 25 years? Andrew Miller has a fantastic take on it and we hope to create a show that will be fun and scary for fans of the movie and folks that have yet to discover it.”
After which Bacon added, “Let’s kick some Graboid ass!”
Reboot possibilities for the film Tremors were first discussed back in 2015 from Universal Cable Productions and Blumhouse Television. At that time, the studios began shopping around for a network to house their reboot project.
The original Tremors has been hailed a cult-classic film after flopping at the box office. The film gained serious traction after being released on home video which ultimately led to several straight-to-video sequels and even a TV series which only aired for one season.
