Michael Cudlitz explains why we won’t see a crossover with ‘Fear the Walking Dead’

We’ve heard countless reasons for why The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead shouldn’t do a crossover.

Michael Cudlitz (Abraham) weighs in with another reason. He says it’s because the Two shows wouldn’t blend well together.

The reasoning for this is that TWD takes liberties with reality and mythology because it’s based on a comic book. FTWD has a more grounded base in its story line.

“We have almost have a permission slip as far as our reality to make things a little bit bigger because we are based on the graphic novel,” Cudlitz said. “You have these characters like Abraham with the mustache and the ridiculous way he presents himself. I don’t mean that in a bad way, ridiculous is fine. Michonne with the sword, Daryl with the crossbow.”

“If one of our characters were to show up in the other world [on Fear the Walking Dead], they wouldn’t mesh because Fear is based much more in a realistic reality where I believe ours is a heightened reality because of the graphic novel.”

Even FTWD showrunner Dave Erickson thinks  a crossover isn’t the best.

“As of right now, no, there is no plan,” Erickson said. “From a narrative perspective, nevermind the geography of it all, I think it would be too difficult to pull off. I don’t think there’s anything, as far as I’ve read in the comic, I don’t think there’s any trackway for that either. It’s such a complicated proposition and I think for the time being, the two shows just need to exist in their own spheres.”

And personally, I feel they work best as separate entities. What do you guys think?

Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 pm ET on AMC. The Walking Dead will return for its eighth season in October of 2017. The first trailer is expected to arrive at San Diego Comic Con in July.
