Han Solo Spin-off Severs Ties With Its Directors

Due to ‘creative differences’, the planned Han Solo spin-off will no longer be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The announcement was made by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy on Tuesday. She stated that a new director would be announced soon.

The film has been in production in London since January of this year. The two directors released a joint statement regarding the split with the Lucasfilm.

“Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew.”

The duo had highly successful adaptations of The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street as well as its sequel. Fans were excited to see what they were going to bring to the table with the spinoff.

In 2015, the studio also severed ties with director Josh Tank who was set to direct another anthology film in the Star Wars franchise. No replacement has been announced for that project as of yet.

The Han Solo spin-off stars Alden Ehrenreich as the titular character, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and a supporting cast which include Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton and Woody Harrelson. It is the second anthology film in the franchise. The first being Rogue One. The anthology films are separate than the main films.

The Han Solo film is scheduled to be released sometime in May of 2018.
