Milo Ventimiglia talks Gilmore Girls and Rory’s Baby Speculation

When fans of Gilmore Girls heard that a revival was happening, their expectations were set incredibly high and if you ask most fans if they were satisfied after watching A Year In The Life – they’d say – generally – the answer is yes.

It was a Netflix four episode series and it answered some questions fans had about what life looked like for their Stars Hollow favorites after the series ended, but it also left more questions unanswered, or at least, made you wonder if the answers they gave were truly at the hearts of the characters they grew to love.

One of those big questions was obviously about Rory and what her future looked like, who she ended up with, where her heart found its match and at the end of A Year In The Life – that question was still unanswered. Or at least, it was undocumented.

See, most fans of the series will say that Rory and Jess are end game, and we have to agree. No matter who else came and went in their lives, their love was there. Even in the scenes they did spend together during the Netflix revival, the love they shared was still obvious – and Milo Ventimiglia recently weighed in on the mini-series and that love between Jess and Rory.

He started off by saying that he enjoyed taking on the role of Jess again, even if the crew wasn’t the same crew he’d grown to know and to love over the years.

It was fun, I enjoyed it, I’m happy I got to step back into Jess’ leather jacket for a moment, but at the same time, it was a different experience.

He went on to say that Jess is never going to not love Rory, even if it’s more of a platonic love (although, we’re still rooting for them to be together)

‘I think that he’s never going to not love her. Now that doesn’t mean it’s a romantic love — it just means, I think, the two of them found something deep, a connection so deep when they were so young that even though their lives went on different paths, different directions, they had that. They had that together and you never lose it.’ Jess absolutely loved Rory still — absolutely did. But it was also like the moment was passed. Or was it not? I don’t know. … I didn’t write the show, so I don’t really know. I just know that Amy (Sherman-Palladino) wanted me to look lovingly in the direction of Rory, played by the great Alexis Bledel, and I did.’

He absolutely looked in lovingly on Rory, but he also did so in a way that didn’t rule out a romantic future, in fact, we think it sort of solidified the fact that no matter what happens, their love transcends – even if it’s a few steps ahead of them.

On the topic of those final words of the mini-series where Rory tells her mom that she’s pregnant, well, fans are also hoping that somehow the baby is Jess’. Milo says that he’s not sure that’s the case, but that it is possible.

‘Fans are like, ‘Oh my God, is it your baby?’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know. It could be — I don’t think it is — but it could be.’

While the cast members are tight-lipped about a season 2, which has some fans believing it won’t happen at all and others convinced that they know something we don’t yet – we’ll be happy either way. If season 2 does happen, we want to see Rory and Jess together, but if it doesn’t, well…they’re living out their happily ever after in our minds.
