Michael Phelps is Going to Race a Great White Shark During ‘Shark Week’

Michael Phelps has made quite a splash at the 2016 Rio Olympics by furthering his title as the most decorated Olympian of all time.  Phelps has earned himself a total of 28 medal in the sport of swimming with 23 of those being gold.   He is arguable the greatest swimmer and Olympian to have ever lived but, little did we all know, there is one opponent that he has yet to face.

As part of Discovery’s famed Shark Week, Phelps will be diving into the ocean and racing against a great white shark!  Now, while we’re pretty positive that the event isn’t going to be as literal as it sounds (we highly doubt that Phelps will be jumping into the ocean and racing right next to a great white.  Let’s be realistic here), it’s still sure to be a pretty interesting match up.

Check out the official description for Phelps Vs. Shark: Great Gold Vs Great White below:

They are one of the fastest and most efficient predators on the planet: Sharks. He is our greatest champion to ever get in the water: Michael Phelps. 39 world records. 23 Olympic golds. But he has one competition left to win. An event so monumental no one has ever attempted it before. The world’s most decorated athlete takes on the ocean’s most efficient predator: Phelps V Shark – the race is on!

While it’s still unclear exactly how this race is going down, one things for sure, Phelps is already sizing up his competition:

Phelps Vs. Shark: Great Gold Vs Great White will air Sunday, July 23rd at 8pm EST.  Who do you think will win?
