It’s the worst thing that can happen to any television fandom. Your favorite series is cancelled! You’re now left with that devastating feeling of having absolutely no closure. Loose ends and unresolved plot lines will never be completed. What now?
Often times after the cancellation of a beloved series, a fandom will come together and fight for the return of their favorite show. Fans start online petitions, tweet storms on social media and other tactics in an effort to build buzz surrounding the show hoping that, just maybe, the decision to cancel the series will be overturned. In some cases, we’ve seen the fan outcry make a difference and reverse a decision. This season, after fans of the NBC series Timeless they banded together, took to social media and their push resulted in the network’s reversal of the decision to cancel the series.
Naturally, when the extremely popular Netflix Sense8 was cancelled, fans retaliated. They wanted more so they banded together in hopes of receiving the same outcome that Timeless fans had achieved. Unfortunately, the outcome would not change for the Sense8 fans.
On Thursday, Netflix issued a heart-filled statement to fans regarding the cancellation of the series saying:
“To our Sense8 family, We’ve seen the petitions. We’ve read the messages. We know you want to #RenewSense8, and we wish we could #BringBackSense8 for you. The reason we’ve taken so long to get back to you is because we’ve thought long and hard here at Netflix to try to make it work but unfortunately we can’t. Thank you for watching and hope you’ll stay close with your cluster around the world. #SensatesForever.”
Sense8 actor Brian J. Smith tweeted his own message of thanks to viewers and fans of the series.
“I just wanted to take a moment to personally thank all of you for the love and support and fight you’ve put up the last week or so. In the wake of such bad news it was heartening to know that what Sense8 stood for meant so much to so many people. And since you’ve been so extraordinarily passionate I feel it’s only fair that you get more than lip service or a silly tweet from me.”
Smith goes on to explain that he had been given the same reason for the series cancellation as the fans were given; viewership but he promises that the fans were hear and thanks them all for putting up, “a friggen GREAT fight.” You can read Smith’s full letter to fans via his tweets below.

Sadly, Sense8 will not be revived at this time but, there’s always hope that shows can return at some point in the future. Don’t give up hope yet, Sense8 fans!
