Walkers Invade Ohio!

This past weekend, Ohio became infested with walkers! You heard that right, walkers.

Akron held it’s first Rubber City Pop Culture Con. The con was created by Jay Miller and Dan Gorman, who host Internet radio’s Altered Realm Radio and who came up with “The Akron Knight,” an online web comic.

Miller also owns StuffGenie Emporium in Barberton, and Gorman, a comic book and medical illustrator, has created trading-card graphics for the likes of Marvel, Star Wars, Game of Thrones and more.

“We love pop culture. We just want to get it out there and grow it,” Miller said.

The event hosted a wide array of celebrity guests, featuring: WWE’s Pat Tanaka, Big Mike and Jesse from Discovery Channel, Matthew Horak from Marvel Comics and Earthquaker Pedals, Shawn Coss from Cyanide and Happiness and Stephen Vinning and Tim Proctor from The Walking Dead.

There was a cosplay contest, auction, wrestling seminar and a zombie walk.

The event was a hit and a portion of the proceeds benefited two local charities, Akron Snow Angels or Project Retread. Miller and Gorman are looking forward to next year’s event.

For more fun in Northeast Ohio, check out the Lake Effect Comic Con on Sunday, June 4 in Mentor.
