Ellen DeGeneres is Teaming with Netflix for Her First Stand-Up Comedy Special in 15 Years

Ellen DeGeneres made an exciting announcement during her show on Wednesday.  Ellen is heading to Netflix!  DeGeneres will be shooting her first stand up comedy special in 15 years which will air exclusively on the streaming service platform.

In the video below, DeGeneres explains about how Netflix casually sent her a tweet asking her if she wanted to do the special.  Netflix said, “Looks like it’s been 15 years since you did a stand-up special, @TheEllenShow. How about one for Netflix?”

DeGeneres joked that she first tried to get Netflix to reveal some Stranger Things secrets, particularly asking about what happened to Barb but, when the streaming service wouldn’t spill the beans, she said she thought about it for maybe 30 seconds before replying with a resounding YES!  DeGeneres tweeted, “Let me think about it. Ok I’m in”

Ellen will join the ranks of other A-List comedians such as Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan and Louis C.K. who have all returned to stand up comedy in the form of streaming specials on the platform.  Netflix seems to be making a push to bring good stand up back to life.

DeGeneres said on her show that she is super excited for the opportunity, is currently writing the special and can’t wait to get back on the stand up stage:

It has been 15 years since I did a stand-up special. 15 years. And I’m writing it now, I can’t wait. I’ll keep you posted when and where I’m gonna shoot my Netflix special. I’m excited to do it; I’m excited for you to see it. And now, each one of you, you get to Netflix & chill with me. How about that?”
