Jeffrey Dean Morgan will Drive the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Pace Car at the 101st Indianapolis 500

It may not be a 1967 Chevy Impala but, it will have to do!  It was announced on Thursday that Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead, Supernatural) will have the honor of driving the Pace car at the start of the 101st Indianapolis 500!

Morgan will be driving in style in a 2017 Chevrolet Corvette.  The car comes equipped with a 460-horsepower LT1 direct-injected V8 engine that accelerates the car from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds and covers the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds.  Being that Morgan is the Pace Car, we doubt he’ll get the chance to play with that ridiculous acceleration but, then again, this is JDM we’re talking about.  We wouldn’t be totally surprised if he, somehow, talked his way into getting to take the Chevy out for a real spin.

A release from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway said this would be the 14th time a Corvette is being used as the official Pace Car.  The Corvette is the most used Pace Car and, this will be the 28th time a Chevy will lead the race.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway President J. Douglas Boles commented on Morgan’s participation in the sporting event:

“We’re honored to welcome Jeffrey Dean Morgan to IMS to drive the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport Pace Car.  He’s used to playing the ultimate villain in ‘The Walking Dead,’ but he’ll be an envied hero to millions of race fans around the world when he gets to lead the field to the green flag of the 101st Indianapolis 500 in such a beautiful Corvette.”

Morgan retweeted the IMS tweet announcing the news and, clearly showed his excitement with a simple yet energetic, “HELL YES!”

The 101st Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil will take place this Sunday, May 28th on ABC.  Pre-show coverage begins at 11am EST.
