American Crime Story: First Look At Penelope Cruz As Donatella Versace

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story is now one of the most anticipated TV drama’s to be released in 2018, following the success of last years The People vs OJ Simpson. EW have now released the first official promo image of Academy Award winner Penelope Cruz as fashion designer, Donatella Versace.

Coming from executive producer and creative genius, Ryan Murphy, the FX miniseries returns with a new event and a new all-star cast, including: Edgar Ramirez (Gianni Versace), Ricky Martin (Antonio D’ Amico) and Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan.

In the image you see Cruz portray Donatella – the sister of murdered designer Gianni Versace – wearing a hot pink metallic gown. The shot was taken at Gianni’s home, Villa Casa Casuarina, where he was killed in 1997. Part of the production was located at the villa during filming.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story is the third instalment of the crime anthology from Murphy, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. Currently in pre-production is another instalment titled Katrina: American Crime Story, which focuses on the aftermath of the 2005 hurricane. The series will star: Dennis Quaid as President George W. Bush, Annette Bening as Kathleen Blanco, the governor of Louisiana and Matthew Broderick as Fedreral Emergency Management Agency Director Michael D. Brown.

American Crime Story has enjoyed much success since being nominated for 22 Emmy Awards – winning nine: including Outstanding Limited Series and Best Actress for Sarah Paulson’s role as Marcia Clark. Paulson also received a SAG and Golden Globe award for her role as the lead prosecutor in the O.J Simpson murder trial.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story has a 2018 release date.
