Danny McBride says Pitching the new Halloween Movie was ‘Insane’

In February of last year, Danny McBride and David Gordon Green were announced as the writer and director of the new Halloween film. To make that even cooler, John Carpenter – the original director of the 1978 Halloween’ announced it. It’s awesome that they’re part of a twisted horror film family.

More recently, David and Danny visited John with Jason Blum as well and discussed what they have planned for the movie. John’s reaction is priceless and has us more excited than we can say to see the film.

WOW. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it.’ said John on his Facebook page.

Earlier this week, Danny spoke to EW about the entire process of pitching the film to John Carpenter, which he says was ‘insane’. He also said that if John had disliked it or seemed uninterested, he doesn’t think himself and David would have gone forward with it. So they were relieved when he liked it as much as he did.

It was nuts. We came up with our pitch, and then we had to go to John Carpenter to pitch it, which was insane, that was totally insane. We walked into his office and we were sitting on the couch. He’s across from us, and he’s like, ‘Let’s get this meeting going.’ He was like, ‘So, you guys think you know what you want to do with Michael Myers next? Hit me.’ And so we just kind of launched into what our pitch was. And he was like, ‘Yeah, this is awesome, I love it.’ Which is important to us. Honestly, if he wouldn’t have dug it, I don’t think David and I would have even been interested in doing it.

The original film was incredible, so it’ll be hard to hold a candle to it, but with John’s blessing and more than that, his excitement for it, we’re sure that Danny and David are ready to get this project moving. Until then, you can watch the 1978 classic. Here’s the trailer in the off chance that you’ve somehow managed to go this long without seeing it.

The new Halloween movie is set for release on October 19th of 2018!
