Dreams Do Come True – ‘Supernatural’ Teams With Scooby Doo Next Season

Well friends, the day has finally come – Sam and Dean Winchester are finally going to team up with another famous pair of hunters. Well, not hunters. More like detectives who pal around with a larger-than-life talking Great Dane. Ladies and gentlemen, after thirteen seasons between the WB and CW, Supernatural is finally set to crossover with Scooby Doo.

The CW presented their upfront presentation for the 2017/2018 season earlier this morning and, while the news of Arrow moving to Thursday nights following Supernatural seemed to be the biggest surprise, this snippet by far is the most intriguing. Sometime during the 13th season this fall animated versions of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) will find themselves working to solve a mystery with Scooby Doo himself. No word on if Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma will appear as well in the episode. (God, I would hope everyone appears. Just not Scrappy Doo.) No air date was announced, as the new season hasn’t even begun shooting yet, but Warner Brothers Animation will be handling the entire episode.

That’s right, fans – a full-length animated episode of Supernatural. Could anyone have foreseen this ever happening?

Via Mindspin.Com – I mean, can you imagine *THIS* moment?

Supernatural was renewed way back in January, while other networks stalwarts had to wait until a couple weeks ago to learn their fates. The long-running genre drama, wrapping season 12 with a two-hour finale this evening, is only on its fourth showrunner in Andrew Dabb, while former showrunner Jeremy Carver and longtime producer Robert Singer serve as producers. Series creator Eric Kripke remains aboard as executive consultant.

Why the early renewal? Mark Pedowitz, president of The CW, explains;

“Over the past several seasons, The CW has built a schedule of proven performers, from our lineup of DC superheroes, to critically acclaimed comedies, to sci-fi dramas. Early pickups of these seven series now allow our producers to plan ahead for next season, and gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year long.”

Rumors have long swirled that season 13 would be the final season, due to both Padalecki and Ackles discussing the show’s eventual conclusion in Entertainment Weekly. The quote in question, as spoken by Jared Padalecki, basically makes mention of the two actors thinking it might be time to end the show. Rest easy though, fans – they both are on record saying that, as long as they’ve in love with their characters and The CW wants the show, they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Season 14? 15? Hey, the longer the better if you ask me, as Supernatural is one of the few shows that has actually improved with age. Patience is now the name of the game, as we will need to wait for the full episode details. For now, don’t forget to tune in to the two-hour season finale tonight on the CW. Season 13 will debut sometime this fall.
