Paris Jackson to Teen Vogue ‘I was born with a platform and I didn’t want to waste it’

Paris Jackson lived a lot of her life outside of the spotlight, which is to be expected after what her father went through with fame and circumstance. At a certain point, people were simply expecting – and anticipating – him to fail. Paris has respectfully lived her life differently, saying that life in the public eye scared her. She saw what it did to people and how it can cause pain.

However, she’s realized lately that she wants to use her voice with the platform she’s been given and she’s not going to let fear run her life.

I honestly used to have no motivation whatsoever to be in the public eye; it scared me. I’ve seen what it can do to people, [and] plenty get hurt. But after a long time of thinking, I started to really see the kind of impact I already have on people, how I was born with a platform, and I didn’t want to waste it. There are so many people who work their entire lives to create a platform and mine was just handed to me…. Why not use it for something important?

She doesn’t just want to step into the spotlight to say she did so, she wants to make a difference. We imagine her father is incredibly proud.

So many people right now are so focused on what kind of shoes this person has, the designer purse they carry, what car they drive, or whether they wear the same outfit more than once. I want to use my platform for something other than that. I want to actually make a difference. So everything that I’m doing — the acting, the modeling — it’s all just to grow my platform so I can use my voice for things that matter.’

Paris went on to say that she knows that fame comes with ups and downs and that people are always going to be willing, and ready, to attack you for anything they can find an excuse to attack you for.

People can be really cruel. I’ve learned that no matter what you do, you will always receive some kind of ridicule for it. It doesn’t matter if your heart is in the right place — someone will always have a reason to hate you. But that being said, I’ve also learned that it really doesn’t matter and that as long as I follow my heart and continue trying to do what’s right, I’m on the right path.

With the career and life that Michael Jackson had, the good and the bad things that were said about him and spoken against him are public information. It makes it easy for his family, and his children, to read awful things and to see people being presumptuous. Perhaps being a Jackson has given her thicker skin, but whatever it was, her outlook on fame makes a lot of sense, and she’s got a good head on her shoulders about it.

She also spoke about music being her passion and how she’d love to work with Paul McCartney one day, calling him the ‘love of her life’. For the rest of her interview, check out Teen Vogue.
