Dwayne Johnson is Seriously Considering Running for President
Dwayne Johnson truly is a man of the people. In an interview with GQ recently, where his cover story will go down in history as one of the most interesting and also compelling, he spoke about everything from his gym space to running for president. The latter, Dwayne says, is a real possibility.
If you’ve not yet read the entire interview, we recommend it. Dwayne is one of our favorite actors but the entire piece made us understand him deeper and like him even more. At one point, the interviewer says that Dwayne feels that there are no such things as strangers. Just best friends and best friends that he hasn’t met yet.
Dwayne says that the idea of running for president began to become something he gave serious thought to about a year ago when pundits ‘floated the idea’.
‘There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think, ‘Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful. I didn’t want to be flippant.’
When asked if he might honestly give up acting to run for office, he said, ‘I think that it’s a real possibility.‘
It’s not something as simple as ‘longer weekends and higher pay’, he genuinely thought about what would happen if he were to run for and become president. There are learning tools, dealing with making decisions you know people will disagree with you on, and understanding that the presidency isn’t something to joke around about – not something to use your popularity to win without proper education and intentions.
Dwayne was asked how he feels that the president is doing now and instead of answering right out, he said that he’d rather answer with what he’d like to see, and that answer was a great one.
‘I’d like to see a better leadership. I’d like to see a greater leadership. When there’s a disagreement, and you have a large group of people that you’re in a disagreement with—for example, the media—I feel like it informs me that I could be better. We all have issues, and we all gotta work our shit out. And I feel like one of the qualities of a great leader is not shutting people out. I miss that part. Even if we disagree, we’ve got to figure it out. Because otherwise I feel, as an American, all I hear and all I see in the example you’re setting is ‘Now I’m shutting you out. And you can’t come.’‘
He added: ‘Disagreement informs us. The responsibility as president — I’d take responsibility for everyone. Especially when you disagree with me. If there’s a large number of people disagreeing, there might be something I’m not seeing, so let me see it. Let me understand it.‘
We love that attitude, and we hope to get to have an interview of our own with him one day. His charisma radiates off of paper, we can’t imagine what it’d be like in person, and in thinking honestly, we’d do well as a country to have a man of the people to run our country.
