Cold, wind, and rain couldn’t stop a gathering of true superheroes on their mission to save the day! The Super Run is a national series of 5k running events that partners with non-profit organizations to put on superhero themed events to help raise funds and awareness for their cause. I had the honor of participating in today’s event held in Princeton, NJ. While the weather brought a chill to the bone, it was a charitable spirit that brought a warmth to the heart.
It was awesome to look around and see people of all ages dressed as their favorite superhero (or villain) ready to take on the 5k challenge! Excited runners huddled together in a small covered area prior to the race in an attempt to stay dry. We bonded over our geekiness, shared stories of prior runs, and took photos to show that nothing was gonna get in our way.
Before we knew it, the race was on! Music got the blood pumping, supporters cheered, and a big thumbs to that group of little ones giving runners a high five as they passed by. So inspiring, so sweet. With winding whipping in our faces, rain soaking through our capes, sneakers sloshing through endless puddles… we all made it to the finish line. I applaud all my fellow runners that braved the elements to be part of something that is truly Super!

I first participated in The Super Run last year and, with the help of a local artist JaCo Tartaruga, managed to raise $3500 for cancer research. It was an amazing feeling to help support a cause that has impacted my life on a very personal level. I am looking to participate in another Super Run later this year. My goal? Find some fellow geeks to help me beat my last fundraising efforts. Stay tuned! In the meantime, check out this video…
