Guardians of the Galaxy: James Gunn has over 500 Songs for his ‘Awesome Mixes’
Something that I highly enjoyed about both Guardians of the Galaxy films, other than the awesome plot, is the music! James Gunn, like so many of us, has quite the soft spot for the older tunes… I mean, they’re classics!
In 2014 when Peter Quill’s ‘Awesome Mix Vol 1’ was released to the public, people were quick to download the catchy music.
James Gunn spoke in a recent interview with MamaSmiths.com about how there are plenty more of catchy 70’s and 80’s songs to come our way in the future; in fact, enough to fill multiple soundtracks!
“I have a list of about 500 songs which I think of as Guardians-type songs that Meredith Quill might really love. When I’m writing the script, I put the songs into the script where they seem to fit. Sometimes I don’t have a song that seems right on that list, so I have to go out and search, and listen to a bunch of stuff, and see what I like. It’s all basically baked into the organic story of what’s happening in the movie in the same way you put sugar in a cake.“
I have to say, not only has James Gunn done a fantastic job when it comes to illustrating the Guardians series, but also in his music selections!
Guardians of the Galaxy is now playing in theaters.
