On Monday, Warner Bros. released the first official, full-length trailer for Blade Runner 2049 during a live event which also featured a Q&A with stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford and with director Denis Villeneuve. Check out the epic trailer below:
Plot details for the film are being kept locked away and secret but, the official log-line from the trailer states:
“Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.”
The film also co-stars Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Ana De Armas, MacKenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, Lennie James and Carla Juri.
The Q&A event with Gosling, Ford and Villeneuve didn’t reveal much about film and, at one point, Gosling even joked that there was a sniper up in the rafters, ready to spring into action if they revealed too much about the film. So, what did they say?
Gosling reminisced about watching the original Blade Runner film from 1982:
“It was one of the first films I’d seen that it wasn’t clear how I was supposed to feel. It made me question what it meant to be a human being and my ability to recognize the hero from the villain. It was one of the first films where I wondered what happened after it was over.”
Ford spoke of what it’s like to revisit an old character:
“It’s very interesting visiting a character after some time. … It was a very gratifying experience.”
