‘Edge of Tomorrow 2’: Familiar Title and Emily Blunt Returns
The sequel to the 2014 film Edge of Tomorrow has an official title and it has been confirmed that Emily Blunt is set to return as well.
The film will be called…what else? Live, Die, Repeat and Repeat. It is a direct reference to the original film’s tagline Live. Die. Repeat.
Director Doug Liman had this to say:
We have an amazing story! It’s incredible! Way better than the first film, and I obviously loved the first film.” He added that everything now comes down to scheduling, saying, “But it’s not an if, it’s a when.”
The film is based on the Japanese novel All You Need Is Kill. Both Blunt, alongside Tom Cruise, starred in the original. Cruise played a military PR officer with no combat experience but is sent out to film an attack on Earth by aliens. He is killed in an assualt but somehow gets trapped in a time loop that sends back to the day before the assault, only to repeat the process over and over. Imagine Aliens meets Groundhog Day. Blunt plays a Special Forces operative that teams up with Cruise to figure out a way to defeat the aliens.
Obviously, if you have seen the film, you are aware that Blunt dies. Liman has described the new film as “a sequel that’s a prequel.” This would explain the reason for Blunt’s involvement.
