Next week Miley Cyrus will be dropping her new single “Malibu” and has revealed that her sixth album will be released later this year. She will also grace the cover of the May issue of Billboard.

And Miley had some sweet words to say about the album and how her reignited romance with Liam Hemsworth helped to inspire it.

“I never would’ve believed you if three years ago you told me I’d be here writing this song. [People are] going to talk about me if I come out of a restaurant with Liam. So why not put the power back in my relationship and say, ‘This is how I feel’?”

“Malibu” is dropping May 11th and Billboard describes this song as a “breezy love song” and “gimmick-free pop-rock,” unlike anything she’s done before.

But her rekindled love isn’t the only inspiration. She’s thinking about her image and who is seen as in the public eye. She wants to branch out and reach more people with her music.

“I like talking to people that don’t agree with me, but I don’t think I can do that in an aggressive way… I don’t think those people are going to listen to me when I’m sitting there in nipple pasties, you know?”

She continued to comment on the album saying that it “is a reflection of the fact that yes, I don’t give a f—, but right now is not a time to not give a f— about people. I’m giving the world a hug and saying, ‘Hey, look. We’re good — I love you.’ And I hope you can say you love me back.”

Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, weighed in on the album saying, “This is Miley leaning into her roots more than I’ve ever heard… For her, this is honest.”

And she definitely is passionate about getting back to her country roots.

“The fact that country music fans are scared of me, that hurts me,” said Miley.

It seems like she’s headed in the right direction with this new album. I can’t wait to hear the new single!

“Malibu” is out May 11th.
