Watch the Trailer for Lionsgate’s ‘The Big Sick’
In the world of romantic comedies, there are movies that set a standard, even if people don’t want to openly admit it. Films like The Notebook, The Titanic, Dirty Dancing, Love & Basketball, 10 Things I Hate About You, and a slew of other movies have made us all laugh, cry, and believe that love has that magic power again, even if just for a moment.
Things aren’t always so black and white in love, nor are they always as complicated as some romance films get. Sometimes, especially young people today, just need a film that speaks to them. Dating is hard, following the rules is seemingly impossible. Do we really wait 3 days to text someone first, is the girl supposed to wait to make the first move? Can we date outside of our social circles and make it work?
Love isn’t easy, but it’s important, and that’s the premise of a new movie called The Big Sick that Lionsgate released a trailer for on May 2nd. The trailer starts off making you laugh, albeit off topic, before diving into what the film is actually about. Within moments you’re sucked into this love story that you’re already rooting for, never even having seen the film in its entirety.
That is when you know a movie has staying power.
Plus, the film is about following your heart, even if other people seem to think that’s not what’s best for you. Be it social class, ethnicity, gender, or what have you that dares to separate people – love is worth fighting for. This is what Emily and Kumail find out in the film, or at least, Kumail does. Emily seems to spend most of the movie quite ill.
Did we mention yet that the film is based off of Kumail’s love story with his wife Emily? Yeah, if you weren’t drawn in before, you’re bound to be drawn in now. Especially if you re-watch the trailer with that in mind.
The cast sat down together with The Hollywood Reporter, with Emily too, and talked a bit about the premise of the film and how a lot of it was just real.
