Melissa McCarthy To Star In Dark Puppet Comedy ‘The Happytime Murders’

It’s official!

Melissa McCarthy is set to star and produce the upcoming R rated puppet dark comedy, The Happytime Murders. The film will take place in a world where humans and puppets coexist. McCarthy’s character will be teaming up with a puppet detective as they try to solve the recent murders surrounding the cast of the popular puppet show The Happytime Gang.

The film had been in talks and in the works since 2008 with some great concept art coming out in 2012. It was eventually picked up by STX Entertainment in 2015.

The film will be directed by Muppets legend Jim Henson’s son, Brian Henson who is currently the chairman of The Jim Henson Company. McCarthy’s husband Ben Falcone is also set to star and produce.

“When a really good script combines puppet strippers, Los Angeles’ underbelly, and comedy, it’s like my fever dream has finally come true” – McCarthy on her involvement with the film

You can currently find McCarthy occasionally and hilariously portraying Sean Spicer on SNL and in the upcoming film Life of the Party, which she wrote alongside Falcone.
