Eric Dane Halts Filming on The Last Ship due to Depression

Now more than ever, celebrities are being open about their struggles with mental illness and taking the time to put themselves first. Most celebrities have to follow grueling schedules and, even when they aren’t on the job, are ‘on’. From paparazzi to fan photos – a trip to the store or even to the cinema is much different for people ‘in the limelight’ than it is for the rest of us.

Eric Dane is a well-known name in Hollywood. He is currently cast as Captain Tom Chandler on The Last Ship but has been in films like Burlesque and Valentines Day to Charmed and Grey’s Anatomy. Yep, Eric Dane played McSteamy on the series before his character faced one of the cruelest deaths on the show. We still aren’t over it.

Eric’s acting is absolutely phenomenal in whatever role he is cast in, but even superstar actors need a break sometimes. He’s been open with his struggles in the media and has recently done something to make sure that his health and well-being are at the forefront of his mind.

Filming for The Last Ship is being halted so that Eric can take a few weeks to focus on his mental health. He is excited about his return to the show, but also that he has a team that will work with him to ensure that he’s receiving the best care possible.

His rep made a statement to People about his break from the series.

Eric asked for a break to deal with personal issues. He suffers from depression and has asked for a few weeks of downtime and the producers kindly granted that request. He looks forward to returning.”

The series has already been renewed for a 5th season and the 4th is set to premiere this summer.
