On This Day in History: April 21st

Since April is my anniversary month writing for Fan Fest News, I thought  it would be fun to go back in time and find little tidbits of history that have occurred each day. So daily, I will be posting a few fun facts of each day in history. I hope you will enjoy reminiscing or even learning something new that you didn’t know before.  On THIS day in history:

APRIL 21st

  • 753 BC –  Rome was founded by Romulus and his twin brother Remus
  • 1509 – Henry VIII Ascended to the throne of England
  • 1895 –  The first movie projector, “Panopticon,” was developed and demonstrated by Woodville Latham and sons Gray and Otay.
  • 1896 – The Spanish-American War began
  • 1918  – The Red Baron, Baron Manfred von Richthofen was killed by Allied forces above the Somme River in France during WWI.
  • 1962 –  Seattle’s Space Needle Restaurant opened at the Seattle World’s Fair.
  • 1963 – The Rolling Stones and The Beatles met for the first time at the Crawdaddy Club in Richmond, England. The Rolling Stones opened for the Beatles.
  • 1972 – Apollo 16 astronauts explored the surface of the moon.
  • 1977 –  “Annie” opened on Broadway
  • 1981 –  “Wierd Al” Yankovic made his national television debut on Tom Snyder’s The Tomorrow Show.
  • 1984 – Doctors in France announced that they had found the virus that causes AIDS
  • 1986 – Geraldo Rivera hosted a live broadcast of the infamous, highly promoted The Mystery of Al Capone’s Vault. There was no mystery to be solved.
  • 1989 –  In Japan, The first handheld Gameboy was released.
  • 2016 – Prince Rogers Nelson died at the age of 57 of an accidental overdose.
