John Geils Jr, the guitarist in the J. Geils Band, was found dead earlier today in his Massachusetts home. The 71 year-old musician was found in his home by the Groton (Mass.) Police Department, who said he was likely to have died of natural causes.
The band is best known for their hit songs “Centerfold” and “Freeze Frame,” both were Billboard hits in the early 80s. The J. Geils Band broke up in 1985 but reunited in 1999.
According to Variety, the police responded to a call for a wellness check. Geils was said to be found unresponsive, and was shortly pronounced dead. The story is still developing but it seems there was no foul play involved.
