‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ Teases Bumblebee’s Past at CinemaCon

CinemaCon was blazing with much hype from excited fans this weekend, as filmmakers discussed their upcoming projects that will shortly be making their debuts in the theaters. One director in particular, Michael Bay, was especially ecstatic about his latest project; Transformers: The Last Knight.

According to THR, Paramount screened fresh footage from The Last Knight in which the preview begins in Medieval England during a battle of some kind. The footage opened during King Arthur’s medieval era, in the midst of a battle, with Lancelot asking for a magician. King Arthur questions this tactic, before Merlin discovers a staff with Transformer markings on it.

There is another scene with Sir Burton that shows a flashback to the original 12 Knights of the Round Table, along with 12 Transformers from Cybertron who fought alongside them in an alliance between man and machine. The legend told that there would be one knight who was chosen to save the world (Cale Yaeger, perhaps?)

Another scene was during a war scene, in which flaming arrows were flying overhead. A lone knight, while drinking a bottle of alcohol, peers over the side of a cliff near him and notices a large robotic dragon fly by. (Probably thinking it is some sort of drunk hallucination?)

The final bit of The Last Knight footage shown at CinemaCon involved the character played by Anthony Hopkins, who lives in England. He also has his very own Transformer ‘guardian’ (known as Cogman), but this one is British and Hopkins’ character implies was in World War I and jokes that it suffers from robot dementia. He also reveals that he met Bumblebee when he was a boy.

Interestingly enough, that implies that Bumblebee was on Earth for a very long time before the events of the first Transformers. When we first encountered the character, he was a 1977 Camaro, which would indicate that he had been on Earth since at least the 1970’s.

Perhaps this footage was also meant to set us as a teaser for the Bumblebee movie spinoff.

Transformers: The Last Knight is the fifth installment in the Transformer series; which will arrive in theaters on June 23rd, 2017.
