New ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 Trailer Released Titled “Long Walk”

The time for childish things is done, for Winter has arrived on ‘Game of Thrones’. The newly released trailer for the penultimate season has been released, and the weight of the past six seasons has all come down to this:

Three leaders taking a long, purposeful walk to their seats of power.

Jon Snow, supposed bastard of Ned Stark, approaching his father’s chair in the Great Hall of Winterfell. Daenerys Targaryen, approaching a new throne set somewhere in a land she’s not been to since she was a child. Cersei Lannister, Queen of Westeros, regally walking towards the Iron Throne carrying the weight of a family lost to scandals, lies, and treachery.

All the while a slowed-down version of James’ “Sit Down (With Me)” plays beneath them. The lyrics of which seem very poignant for what I believe this coming season represents for these three, powerful leaders…

“Those who feel the breath of sadness…  Those who find they’re touched by madness… in love in fear in hate in tears… Sit down next to me”

Then, just as they take their seats on their respective thrones and right before it cuts to black, Cersei lets out a chilling sigh, her breath frozen in the air. The eye of the Night King comes into view as if we were watching that progression from his perspective.

When you think of each of their journies over the course of six seasons, each one of them—Jon, Cersei, Daenerys—have all been afflicted by fear, love, madness and despair at some point. It has made each of them strong, forceful opponents to their respective enemies, but what does that mean for them as a whole? They HAVE to come together to defeat the Night King’s army of white walkers. No single House can stand alone against the scourge that is about to envelop Westeros.

Then, once that battle is done, it will be lion versus wolf versus dragon in the all-out war bound to happen over the fate of the Iron Throne.

‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 premieres on Sunday, July 16 at 9/8C on HBO.
