“SNL” Roasts Sean Spicer Again In Latest Cold Open
Saturday Night Live has been on a tear for its 42nd season, thanks largely to the election of Donald Trump as the President of the United States. SNL has always excelled at providing comic satire when roasting the modern political climate and the last two weeks have been proof positive that the show is excelling yet again, despite Trump’s remarks that the show is “unfunny” and needs to be axed immediately. For a show that’s been on the air since 1975 and now enjoying its highest ratings in 22 years (even over the Will Ferrell years), I highly doubt NBC Universal will cancel the long-running late night show just because someone wants them cancelled.
Last week, early on in the Kristen Stewart-hosted episode, Melissa McCarthy strolled onto Studio 8H in a spot-on spoof of Press Secretary Sean Spicer, complete with Orbitz cinnamon gum and a Super Soaker filled with soapy water. The clip went viral near instantly and became an overnight sensation. Earlier this evening the comedienne returned in the cold open as the Press Secretary again. Not only did she and the show’s writers attempt to one-up their sketch last week – well, actually, they pulled it off marvelously. Go to the bathroom first, just to make sure you don’t wet your jammies, and enjoy the full sketch below.

Jerrold spent his childhood in southeastern Pennsylvania ingesting far too many TV shows and movies, thus creating a stark-raving mad geek. He’s a movie aficionado, binge-watches Netflix, and is a total TV junkie. His addiction has led to an unhealthy and rabid obsession of various geek pantheons – Star Trek, Star Wars, both DC *AND* Marvel,
cult 80’s and 90’s television, Supernatural, The X-Files, Doctor Who, and, and…holy overload. He’s still waiting to run away in a 1967 Impala or a blue police box.
