Jonathan Rhys Meyers is Joining the Cast of ‘Vikings’!

If you are a fan of Vikings, you know as well as anyone that getting close to any character is not a good idea. With characters constantly battling for power, lands and money there are bound to be fatalities along the way. (I’m still getting over losing Ragnar Lothbrok played wonderfully by Travis Fimmel!) On the upside, we have opportunities to meet new characters that continue to add to the show’s evolving story lines.

One such new character joining the cast is Bishop Heahmund played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Being a fan of him from his movies and his past performances in The Tudors, this casting news is right on point! I cannot wait to see what he does with his character which is set to appear in the season finale.

According to Entertainment Weekly‘s interview with the show’s creator, Michale Hirst, Meyers’ character will be a dynamic and strong adversary for Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen). Hirst describes the role as not only extremely religious but also a bit ‘crazy’. It just so happens that Hirst worked with Meyers on The Tudors, so he is aware of what Meyers will be able to bring to the show. The introduction of Heahmund in the season finale will set him up as a major player in season 5.

Are you excited for this new casting news?

The Vikings finale airs Wednesday, February 1 at 9 p.m. on History.
