First Look- ‘Feud: Bette and Joan’, FX’s New Series

The rivalry between Hollywood Legends Bette Davis and Joan Crawford will be brought to the small screen in Ryan Murphy’s new American Anthology Series ‘Feud: Bette and Joan’ on FX. The series stars Susan Sarandon as formidable Davis and Jessica Lange as feisty Crawford. The show also reunites Lange and Murphy after her departure from American Horror Story which he also produces.

Though the feud stemmed from the 1930’s, over what else? A man! The series focuses on the battles that took place during the production of the 1962 film ‘Whatever Happen To Baby Jane’, which they both starred in. The film was a terrifying story about two former film stars living a very lonely existence in their Hollywood mansion. Davis’ character tormented Crawford’s who was bedridden throughout the film.

During filming of ‘Baby Jane’, no stunt doubles were ever needed and in a scene where Davis was to drag Crawford across the room, Joan made sure she filled her pockets with rocks to weigh herself down more. Off camera, Davis made sure that her dressing room had a Coca-Cola dispenser in it because Crawford was married, at the time, to the CEO of Pepsi Cola. Yeah…childish much? Sounds more like a high school drama than a Hollywood movie.

“The best time I ever had with Joan was when I pushed her down some stairs” -Bette Davis

Other AHS faces that have also been cast include Sarah Paulson and Kathy Bates who are set to portray Geraldine Page and Joan Blondell. Also joining them are Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alfred Molina and Stanley Tucci.

Up until very recently, there has been very little information that has been released regarding Feud, most likely due to Murphy’s invovlment with AHS and American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson, but if it is anything like his other projects, then it is sure to be a hit. Here’s teaser trailer #1!
