‘Speechless’ returns January 4 – Don’t miss out!

Hit ABC comedy Speechless returns for the second half of its inaugural season on January 4.

There will be no new episode of Speechless this week but the popular new comedy was renewed for a back half of 9 episodes and the series resumes on January 4.

Cast members of Speechless shared their excitement upon receiving news of the additional episodes in this Twitter post.

Meanwhile, the entire season thus far is available on Hulu and episodes 3 through 10 are currently streaming on the ABC mobile app.

Speechless follows the daily life of the DiMeo family and son J.J.’s aide, Kenneth. Like most television families, the DiMeos experience ups and downs, happy moments and tough times, plus lots of laughter and love.  So, in many respects, the DiMeos are similar to other families.  However, there is a little something extra special about them.

The DiMeos experience life alongside son and brother, J.J. (played by Micah Fowler), who has cerebral palsy and is non-verbal, thus the show’s moniker, Speechless. But rest assured, J.J. has a lot to say! He teases his siblings, occasionally talks back to his parents, flirts with girls, and communicates most other things any sixteen year old would, all with the help of his personal aide and “voice”, Kenneth (played by Cedric Yarbrough), who speaks the words J.J. selects from his word board.

While the show reveals how a family with unique circumstances also has many similarities to seemingly more “typical” families, it is not shy about highlighting obvious differences as well, all with a humor and warmth that is still relatable to all.

(But about the laughter, I typically cringe at the term LOL, but Speechless truly makes me laugh out loud every single episode.)

I will be back to recap each new Speechless episode for the rest of season 1. I hope you will join me in discussing the show each week.  If you are not already on board, be sure to catch up using ABC mobile app or check out prior episodes on Hulu.
