In Back to the Future 2, Marty McFly introduced the world to his kicks with ‘power laces’ and now, almost 30 years later, Nike is releasing a real version of the shoe everyone dreamed of having in their closet, and they’re doing it soon.
Heidi Burgett took to Twitter today to make a few updated announcements on the shoe that’s been years in the making. In early 2016 talk started about the real life version of the power lacing Nike that would be released at some point during the year. While not much has changed on public knowledge – like specifics and price – we have been given a release date and within weeks, we’ll know how to sign up to be the first to try them on.
The shoes will be available at select Nike retailers on November 28th and not only can you purchase them, you’ll get to reserve an appointment to try them on to get the full experience. Heidi says that information should be coming within the next two weeks, so if you’re interested in these shoes, it’s a good idea to add her on Twitter so you don’t miss a thing.
You can also check out a four minute video into the making of the shoe which is a very interesting watch. The footwear will conveniently power-lace, fitting perfectly to the buyers foot, and how they made it happen is incredible. There’s a heel sensor that triggers the lace engine at the bottom of the shoe and once triggered, the fly wire that wraps around both sides of the shoe and tightens to fit. While that’s happening, as if it wasn’t cool enough on it’s own, the shoe lights up; and let’s be honest, we all sort of miss those light up shoes of our youth.
The battery lasts for nearly two weeks with average wear and the light mechanisms in the shoe also let you know when you’re running low on battery life and when you should put the shoe back on the charger.
This is definitely one of the most incredible advancements made in footwear and aside from being generally awesome, it’s going to certainly be handy for athletes, runners, and anyone who doesn’t feel like going through the notions of tying their shoes multiple times a day.
The HyperAdapt 1.0 is a game changer, and we can’t wait to snag our own pair.
