September 13th was the 20th anniversary of rap legend Tupac Shakur’s death and the mystery behind his murder has only continued to grow with time. From who did it and why to if his death was faked in an attempt to escape an unsafe life; questions that arose years ago are still unanswered. There is one universal truth about Tupac however, that no wicked fate can change, he lived his life with more passion than many people will ever know. On the 20th anniversary of his death, a teaser trailer was released for All Eyez on Me, a Tupac biopic, and it highlights both the good and the bad that transpired because of that passion.
‘Like all black leaders you have a bullseye on your back. They are going to come after you, everything you love. They are going to give you the tools that you need to destroy yourself.’
One of the most memorable quotes from the trailer, and likely the entire movie, comes from Tupac’s late mother Afeni played by Danai Gurira as she paints a clear picture of the dark future she fears will come for her son; and unfortunately, she was right. Her son was a voice for the black community and that bullseye on his back only got bigger with time.
The trailer shows Tupac’s rise to rap superstardom, starting off in crowded clubs and in the coming years, walking off of private jets. He’s surrounded by beautiful women, money, alcohol, and brighter lights than he’d ever seen before. It also shows police brutality, his home being raided by the FBI and the subtle cracks in some of his relationships which would unknowingly be the start of his demise.
All Eyez on Me will be released in theater on November 11th and from the stories told of Tupac so far; this one may just be the most accurate.
