‘Arrow’: David Ramsey on Season 5 Dialogue

Stephen Amell and David Ramsey certainly do know how to keep a crow entertained! During a panel at Salt Lake Comic Con this past weekend, Stephen and David discussed the first four seasons of Arrow and sharing tidbits about Season 5. At one point, they admitted that the cast isn’t into pranks, but they do enjoy their in-jokes, especially ones referencing famous lines from David Fincher’s 1995 film Se7en and Jonathan Demme’s 1991 film Silence of the Lambs.

“We have a good one going this year,” Amell shared. “You guys know Silence of the Lambs? You know when Buffalo Bill yells, ‘Put the lotion in the basket’? The thing going now, it started with us yelling to the cameraman: ‘It puts the actor in the frame.’ And that one is going really well. I’m really happy with that one.”

Ramsey added, “Yeah, ‘What’s in the box?’ was going for a looong time.”

“So yeah, Dave and I would yell, ‘What’s in the box,'” Amell explained. “Even now, J.D., our main camera operator since the pilot, will just go–in the style of the Budweiser’ “Wassup”–he’ll go, ‘Wazzz in the booox!'”

Amell then coaxes Ramsey into reciting some dialogue from Season 5. “A dialogue tease. Something you have to say to Oliver in a straight-face and I have to answer in a straight-face,” Amell said. “What did you have to say?”

Ramsey replied, “I had to say, ‘Oliver, what’s in the box?’ He added, “But I had to say it in all seriousness, because it’s a very serious moment.”

Newly appointed Mayor Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) finds himself challenged as he fights on two fronts for the future of Star City. With Diggle (David Ramsey) back in the military and Thea adamant about hanging up her hood as Speedy (Willa Holland), Team Green Arrow is down to just Oliver and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) – but they’re no longer the only vigilantes in town. Green Arrow’s public defeat of Damien Darhk at the end of Season Four has inspired a new crop of masked heroes to step up and defend the city, though their painful inexperience makes them obstacles, rather than allies, in the field. The arrival of a deadly new adversary will force Oliver to confront questions about his own legacy, both as mayor and as the Green Arrow.

Arrow Season 5 premieres Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8PM/EST on The CW.
