The death of Christina Grimmie was both shocking and horrific with fans, The Voice community and the world mourning the loss of another talent. The young singer was shot and killed after performing at a concert back in June, and ‘The Voice’ judges came together for a moving performance of Aerosmith’s “Dream On” while in production for the shows 11th season, dedicating it in the memory of Grimmie.

The 22-year-old came third during her time on the sixth season of the hit show.

The four judges – this year introducing Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus to the red chairs, in addition to the show’s leading men, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine – began the song in the middle of an intersection with only Keys at the piano. She kicked off the verse with her soulfully restless voice but also giving the tune a new twist that still mirrored the spirit of the track. Levine followed on guitar while Shelton joined in on the next section, showing of his reliable vocal range. Soon Levine added his take on the second verse, his trademark vocals accompanied effortless with the classic rock jam.

Cyrus came onto the scene for a fierce chorus, again reminding everyone that she can in fact sing. All the judges then traded parts of the song and interchanged harmonies for a mesmerizing performance that just screamed how amazing the foursome’s talent really is – including Levine’s perfect take on Steven Tyler’s iconic course – nailing notes that people aspire to hit.

Hearing the judges intertwine their voices together along with the presence they shared on stage was a powerful yet uneasy moment – something Christina would have loved as much as her fans which made it the more of a spirited tribute.

“In loving memory of our friend Christina Grimmie,” read a card at the end of the episode.

The Voice returns Monday, Sept, 19, at 8.om on NBC
