Monday Night Match-up: Green Arrow vs. DareDevil
Well, it’s about that time, my friends, for me to ‘nerd out’ for another Monday Night Match-up, DC vs Marvel style once more. So far you have voted via social media that Oliver Queen would take the crown versus Hawkeye. You voted that Captain America would beat Batman. Thor was voted to beat out Superman. Deathstroke killed The Winter Soldier. Sara beat Natasha by the mere single digits. Atom squashed Ant-Man in the final tally. Ghost Rider blazed past John Constantine for the win. Deathstroke dominated once again against Frank Castle. Now, with all the Arrow hype that has been swirling all over social media, I decided to bring back our favorite vigilante, Oliver Queen, for another Match-Up. Oliver is an extremely gifted warrior, so I debated for a while as to who I think would be a great opponent for him. Then I thought, how about DareDevil? Plot twist… no weapons.
Stephen Amell has made his mark on the DC Universe in his role as Oliver Queen (The Green Arrow), and his performance of the famous DC archer vigilante continues to amaze me. Charlie Cox has certainly wow’d audiences with his performance of Matthew Murdock (DareDevil) in the Netflix original series DareDevil. Both of these actors have portrayed an amazing performance in their respected roles.
You know the drill, my fellow nerd-lings! If these two were to face off against each other, melee style, who would win? Keep in mind the plot twist. No Weapons Allowed.
It’s a DC vs Marvel Match-up!
Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) Abilities and Skills:
- He survived Lian Yu. I think that in and of itself is essentially a hunger games all on its own.
- He has displayed on many occasions that he is an expert in acrobatics, and often uses this skill while evading enemy fire.
- Oliver is an extremely gifted archer. He also has a wide-variety of trick arrows, ranging from grappling arrows to explosive ones. He is capable of firing multiple arrows at a single target, with deadly accuracy.
- He is proficient in several forms of hand-to- hand combat. Oliver has been known to take on seven people at once. He spent several months dedicated to making himself a better fighter and trained with multiple people including Deathstroke (at the time, Slade Wilson) and Ra’s Al Ghul.
- Oliver’s reflexes are enhanced to the degree where he is quick enough to catch arrows and he has also been known to dodge bullets.
- Oliver is stealth in his movement. After years of training on Lian Yu, he has mastered the art of sneaking up on and taking out enemy forces.
- Oliver is very proficient with a sword, although his preferred weapon is a bow and arrow. He has been known to turn almost anything into a weapon to use to his advantage in a fight. He also is a pretty accurate sharpshooter, especially on pistols.
- Oliver is bilingual, mastering the Russian Language. (Not sure how this would help him in battle, but it is an awesome skill)
- Oliver has brief ‘spy’ experience with A.R.G.U.S
- He survived multiple tortures that were inflicted upon him. Including those done by both Slade Wilson and Billy Wintergreen; members of Australian Secret Intelligence Services.
Matthew Murdock (DareDevil) Abilities and Skills:
- Thanks to his control over his central nervous system due to his many years of martial arts training, Matt can increase his strength to peak human level. He has been known to throw items hard enough break concrete.
- Matt’s reflexes are enhanced to the degree where he is quick enough to catch sai’s and he has also been known to dodge bullets.
- He has displayed on many occasions that he is an expert in acrobatics, and often uses this skill while evading enemy fire.
- He is proficient in several forms of hand-to- hand combat and martial arts. Matt has been known to take on ten people at once. He spent years training under Stick, and learned to box from his father.
- Matt has a very high tolerance to pain. He would not go down easily and is extremely capable of enduring multiple hits.
- Matt can track others down easily via various means, ranging from scents to footprints. With enough experience, he can follow tracks that are days or even weeks old.
- Matt’s ‘blindsight’ allows him to fight, and navigate in darkness.
- Murdock’s sense of hearing enables him to detect an acoustic pressure change of one decibel at a pressure level of seven decibels (whereas the lowest threshold for average human hearing is twenty decibels.) He can hear a person’s heartbeat at a distance of over twenty feet, or people whispering on the other side of a standard soundproofed wall.
Jules Vote: Oliver is without a doubt, one of my favorite DC characters. It breaks my heart to say this, but I’m going to go with DareDevil on this one… after suffering a pretty intense beating from Oliver. If anything, this match is going to be won by the skin of Matt’s teeth. Oliver may not win, but he certainly will leave DareDevil with something to think about.
