‘Game of Thrones’ Stars React to Incomparable 23 Emmy Nominations

The Emmy nominations have been announced and HBO’s fantasy mega hit, Game of Thrones, is leading the nomination scoreboard with a whopping 23 nods including Best Supporting Actor and Actress in a Drama Series and Outstanding Drama. The HBO network, itself, earned the most nominations of any network this year with 94 nods in total.

The series has just completed its most intense and spectacular season yet and, the nominations certainly are not of any surprise to fans of the show.  The cast of the show, however, were shocked and overjoyed when the announcements were made on Thursday morning.  The nominees include Kit Harington and Maisie Williams who are both first time nominees.  They are joined by fellow cast members and Emmy nominee alums Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, and Emilia Clarke.  Max von Sydow also picked up a guest actor nomination for his performance as the Three-Eyed Raven.

Kit Harington plays Jon Snow on the series.  This is his first Emmy nomination for his work in Game of Thrones and, as if we needed more reasons to love the King in the North, his reaction is truly noble.  In a statement,  he said:

“It is a serious understatement to say that I am somewhat stunned. For my work on Game of Thrones to be recognized in this way is an emotional moment for me. I could not be more humbled.”

Maisie Williams plays Arya Stark on the series and was Face Timing with her mother when she found out about her first time nomination.  She saw a notification from the Game of Thrones twitter account and could hardly contain her excitement:

“I am so grateful to be a part of Game of Thrones, so to be nominated for an Emmy is beyond words, but I would like to say thank you to [author George R.R. Martin] for creating such an amazing character and to [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] and everyone associated with the show who bring Arya to life.”

Williams took to Twitter shortly after finding out the amazing news.

When Williams congratulated co-star and fellow Emmy nominee Lena Headey on her nomination, Headey responded with the most perfect Game of Thrones reference to convey just how proud she is of Williams’ accomplishments:

Showrunner, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss also received nods for episodes, “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Door”.  At last year’s Emmy’s, Game of Thrones set a new record with an impressive 12 wins and is setting up to dominate the awards again this fall.  The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air on Sunday, September 18th on ABC.
