San Diego Comic-Con Double Dares You

I double dare you to jump into a gigantic waffle filled with something that resembles whip cream and find that red flag! Race against a clock and go through all sorts of goopy goo just to find a flag? Who in their right mind would do that? A kid of course! Nickelodeon had a game show hit, appealing to the core nature of kids that includes good old fashion competition and getting dirty. If you were a kid in the ’90s, Double Dare was the show to watch.

Running from ’86 to ’93, the game show is celebrating its 30th anniversary at a one night event at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con on July 22.  Nickelodeon has even brought back the original host Marc Summers, who till this day is still widely recognized for the show.  The event will include a live edition of the famous Double Dare games, where new contestants can battle it out through rounds of trivia and physical challenges.  Those of us who missed out all those years ago, now have the opportunity to fulfill our dreams of slime-filled obstacle courses.

Don’t fret, if you are unable to get out to San Diego, The Splat’s Facebook page will live stream the show at 9:30 p.m. PT.  Summers will also host Double Dare specials for the entire week on TeenNick starting July 25, featuring the Comic-Con event and various iterations of the game show (Double Dare, Family Double Dare, and Double Dare 2000).

Double Dare started my love for obstacle courses and now I find myself continuing that tradition by gravitating to shows like the Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge and American Ninja Warrior, which are all just modern adult versions of the kid show minus the intensity, mad strength, and crazy endurance, right?

Did you have a favorite Double Dare challenge?
