Preview of “Justice League Dark” on “The Killing Joke”

Back in 2012 Guillermo Del Toro confirmed he was in talks to direct a live action version of the DC Comics property Justice League Dark. The team first appeared together in 2011 with Justice League Dark # 1 the orginal members are, John Constantine,Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Shade, the Changing Man, and Zatanna. These are lots of the supernatural and magical characters in the DC Universe. This team takes care of the problems that the traditional League isn’t suited for. About a year ago Del Toro dropped out but left his copy of the script with WB, which was super duper nice of him! The only reason he could not make the film was because when they wanted to start the film coincided with the making of Pacific Rim 2.

This week The British Board of Film Classification revealed that in the special features for the highly anticipated animated feature, The Killing Joke which will be released straight to video, there would be a sneak peak at Justice League Dark that will run 7 mintues and 50 seconds. In the past at the end of the DC animated features we have gotten a preview of what comes next, Batman: Bad Blood ended with a shot of Batgirl coming out of the shadows which was a subtle hint for The Killing Joke. This sure does point to DC scrapping the idea of a live action film and replacing it with an animated feature, which I don’t think is a terrible idea. The sort of characters that make of Justice Leauge Dark are much more suited to animation, plus too many teams in one cinematic universe gets a bit muddled and after Batman V Superman DC is striving to make things less muddled and more stream line. Plus DC’s animated straight to video films have been fantastic. In fact I watch Justice League: War frequently, and I really loved their most recent installment Justice League vs Teen Titans!

I am sort of glad that they are most likely approaching this film in an animated matter rather than live action. Matt Ryan is such a fantastic John Constantine and I would be heart broken to see him replaced, my fingers are crossed that DC will get him to voice Constantine considering they got him to appear on Arrow I don’t think it would be a stretch. The relationship between Zatanna and Constantine is an interesting one, they have a long history, they had an irregular affair for decades. Constantine ended up being responsible for Zatanna’s father’s death. No matter how DC decides to go with this movie I am super excited to see it, and if Zatanna doesn’t turn Constantine into a rabbit at least once I will be sad!
