Located in Amityville, New York, the house is being listed for $850,000 on Zillow.com.  With 5 bedrooms, 4 baths and a quarter of an acre of land, it actually sounds like a really great place to live, as long as you don’t mind the house’s past horror history.

The film, Amityville Horror, was actually based on true events which occurred after a gruesome murder took place in the house in 1974.  23-year-old Ronald DeFeo Jr. shot and killed his parents and four siblings in the middle of the night, as they slept in their beds.  DeFeo is currently serving a 25 to life sentence in prison.

The inspiration for Amityville Horror comes one year after the murders took place.  The Lutz family purchased the house and quickly began to experience paranormal events and strange feelings after moving in.  The couple only lived in the house for 28 days before they abandoned the home out of fear.  In the film, James Brolin played George Lutz and Margot Kidder played Kathy Lutz.

Though portions of the film were shot on Long Island, the house used in the film is not the house located in Amityville.  Rather, the house used in the film is located in Toms River, New Jersey however, that hasn’t stopped visitors and movie buffs from seeking out the original house of horrors.  In addition to the Lutz’s, many other families have lived at the location and, while they haven’t claimed to have experienced anything like the Lutz’s did, they had grown tired of constant horror fans dropping by and, in some cases, even partaking in vandalism of the property.

So, what do you think?  Would you want to live in the original Amityville Horror House?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment sections below!
