Pacific Rim 2 will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight and will be based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham. Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni and del Toro will produce the film with Cale Boyter serving as executive producer.
Not much is known yet about the plot of the film however, it has been reported that Boyega will lead the cast as the son of Idris Elba’s character from the original film. This is leading many to believe that Pacific Rim 2 may be taking a leap forward in time, by a decade or two, in correlation to the timing of the first film.
In a press release today, Mary Parent, Legendary’s Vice Chairman of Worldwide Production said:
“It is undeniable that with all his talent and natural charm, John stands out amongst today’s generation of young leading men.”
Pacific Rim creator, Guilermo del Toro said:
“I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.”
No word yet on a release date but, keep checking back with us here at Fan Fest News for more info as it becomes available.
