Is there a Mystique Standalone movie in the works?

There have been rumors that Bryan Singer, who directed X-Men, X2, Days of Future Past, Apocalypse, and co-produced First Class, could be retiring from the X-Men franchise. Now he is saying he may come back in “some capacity.”

“Perhaps as a consultant, as a producer, even as a director, I could see myself returning in the future. Just right now, once this one is done, I’d like to do something really different,” Singer says.

So what would be so interesting to bring Singer back into the franchise? One interviewer from a podcast asked him about the potential for a Mystique standalone movie. That seemed to perk him up.

“I think [Mystique’s] right for [a standalone], whether it’s Jennifer or not. She has this different view of the world: Xavier can get into Cerebro and look at the world but he’d rather just teach classes and see the beauty of mutants and humans co-existing in his mansion in Westchester. Along comes Raven with a reality check on the state of the world. It opens up a lot of avenues.”” said Singer.

Mystique, in the more recent films, has definitely become more of a leader to the younger mutants and she’s really come into her own. Jennifer Lawrence, who portrays Mystique, has said she’d “love to come back. I love the fans and I love the character.”

X-Men: Apocalypse is now playing in theaters. Wolverine 3 opens in U.S. theaters on March 3rd, 2017, followed by unannounced X-Men films on October 6th, 2017 (possibly Gambit), March 2nd, 2018 (possibly Deadpool 2), and June 29th, 2018 (possibly New Mutants). X-Force is also in development.
