New Trailer for ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Gets Praise From Fans

While the first trailer for the upcoming film, Star Trek Beyond, was met with heavy criticism, the second trailer, just released yesterday, is gaining praise and accolades.

Released last December, the first trailer was action-packed but wasn’t quite what Simon Pegg, co-writer Doug Jung, and director Justin Lin wanted to show of the upcoming film. As Pegg perfectly put it in an interview with the British website HeyUGuys, “I didn’t love it because I know there’s a lot more to the film… There’s a lot more story and a lot more character stuff and a lot more what I would call ‘Star Trek stuff.’”

This time around, Paramount Pictures wanted to make sure the fans were happy.  The second and more plot-driven trailer premiered at a fan celebration in the Paramount Pictures studio lot in Hollywood on Friday (a long 5 months after the release of the first trailer).  It features the film’s villain, played by Idris Elba, and was introduced by Pegg via a video recorded message.

According to Yahoo, Pegg said, “I wanted to introduce the trailer for you to see.  It’s something I think really now reflects what Justin, Doug and myself were hoping to achieve with this movie, which is to create a ‘Star Trek’ for the ages; something which embodied what Gene Roddenberry hoped for back in 1966 with the resources and the technology and the extraordinary vision that we can achieve here in 2016. So strap yourselves in, it’s time to go beyond.”

Check out the new trailer below.  Director Justin Lin also announced that the film’s world premiere will take place in IMAX at San Diego Comic Con on July 20 however, the film will hit theaters, nationwide, on July 22nd.
