Toby Maguire Loves Spider-Man No Matter Who He is Played By

This weekend saw the opening of Captain America: Civil War and for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe we got to see Spider Man! Tom Holland who will turn 20 next month was a relative unknown in the US before being given the Red and Blue, he has appeared in a handful of movies with impressive casts. In 2002 Toby Maguire appeared in Spider-Man directed by Sam Raimi, they would go on to make two more films by 2007 ( though many of us pretend Spider-Man 3 didn’t happen). In 2012 Andrew Garfield took up the mantel in The Amazing Spider-Man and the sequel in 2014, though it looked after the first movie we would be seeing Andrew for a while the second movie was less well received than the first. After the failed reboot Sony decided the way to make the most money off of the franchise was to strike a deal with the people
putting out the most successful superhero movies, Marvel themselves.

Thus leading to Tom Holland’s appearance in

Captain America: Civil War! It is refreshing to see some actually young play the youngest avenger excluding vision I guess who is like a year old! Holland was 18 while he filmed Civil War while Maguire was 27 and Garfield was 29 while playing Peter Parker as a high school student. This weekend after

someone posted a cleverly edited video of Toby watching the Captain America: Civil War trailer and running home to get his own Spider-Man suit, Toby himself put it on Instagram with a shout out to Tom Holland.

“Haha seriously, who made this? @tomholland2013 good job! You are great as Spider-Man. Keep it up!”

Maguire has been very supportive of both guys wearing that amazing outfit, in 2012 Maguire interviewed Garfield for vman! He had nothing but wonderful things to say about the Garfield and seemed excited to see the franchise live on in whatever form it was coming in. As a comic book fan you see different artists and writers all the time, so it has always made sense to me that actors and directors change as the years go by. Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, and The Hulk are the only heroes
in recent memory that have changed actors but I don’t think it has taken anything away from the characters. As long as the writer/director/actor have a firm understand of what drives a character I think that equals success.

Tom Holland will appear as Spider-Man in his upcoming solo feature Spider-Man: Home Coming July 6th, 2017
