Slender Man is coming to the Big Screen

Any of you brave enough to venture into the dark depths of the internet know of Creepypasta. Creepypasta is home to horror-related e-
legends and fiction that is a play on the 4chan slang “copypasta.”

It is also the home of numerous Slender Man fiction.

Slender Man is a disturbing tale of an abnormally tall, faceless man who stalks, abducts and traumatizes people, particularly children. Slender Man was created by Erik Knudsen in 2009 originally on the Something Awful forums. Knudsen entered a contest to make everyday photos look supernatural. He not only succeeded but he added text to give some backstory to Slender Man. The photos below were his
entries.

One of two recovered photographs from the
Stirling City Library blaze. Notable for being
taken the day which fourteen children vanished and for what
is referred to as “The Slender Man”. Deformities cited as film defects by
officials. Fire at library occurred one week later. Actual photograph confiscated as evidence. – 1986, photographer: Mary Thomas, missing since June 13th, 1986.

“We didn’t want to go, we didn’t want to kill them, but its persistent silence and outstretched arms horrified and comforted us at the same time…” – 1983, photographer unknown, presumed dead.

Now Slender Man is making his way out of the internet and onto the big screen! Screen Gems is currently developing the film with a script written by David Birke.

Screen Gems has a way with horror. They’ve given us Mothman Prophecies, Boogeyman, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and Hostel along with the Resident Evil and Underwold franchises. This isn’t Birke’s first round with horror either, he’s written screenplays based on the real life killers Dahmer and Gacy and wrote the 13 Sins remake.

Knudsen is a bit apprehensive about a film adaptation saying he would “hate for something to come out and just be kinda conventional.”

Slender Man is planning to be released in fall 2017.
