Why Cable Wasn’t in the First ‘Deadpool’ Movie

We all remember the ending where Deadpool talked to the audience and said that the specific character, called Cable, will appear in the sequel.

Now Deadpool’s creator, Rob Liefeld, sat down with writer Louise Simonson for this, also created Cable, who is the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor. This character traveled back in time to make the X-Force happen. It was Rob Liefeld that actually said that it wasn’t the time for Cable to be on the screen. He sat down with Inverse and explained why he did.

“Half of us believed the movie should involve Cable. I could feel Cable breathing down my neck. I said, ‘No. Don’t put Cable in the first movie.’ If Cable comes later, great. Deadpool is a vehicle for Ryan to shine. Cable bogs it down, I’m not sure it works as a first film with a general audience. I got in the car and I said, ‘Did I really just kill the appearance of my other more popular character?”

Either way, Deadpool was a success and I don’t think he did a bad thing either. It was the right choice. Deadpool, Wade Wilson, needed his moment to shine on the screen. This was pretty perfect and I cannot wait until the date for Deadpool 2 is released!

Deadpool is out now in digital HD and will come out on May 10 on Blue-ray and DVD!
