Stephen and Robbie Amell Raise over $1.7 million for ‘Code 8’ Film

Cousins Robbie and Stephen Amell have raised $1,722,409 from over 20,000 backers on the crowdfunding site, Indiegogo, for their sci-fi feature Code 8. If you have not checked out the film short yet, check out the teaser here.

Indiegogo has said that Code 8 is the highest- crowdfunded film of 2016 on any platform. The campaign, which closed over the weekend, had an original goal of $200,000.

Code 8 will be shot in Los Angeles early next year. Due to scheduling issues, Stephen Amell will not be in the film but will serve as an executive producer.

The film takes place in a world where 4% of the population are born with some type of supernatural ability.

“Instead of being billionaire superheroes, most ‘specials’ live in poverty and resort to crime, forcing the police to become more militarized,” the synopsis said. “The story follows a young man with special powers struggling to find work as a day laborer. After a dispute over payment, he finds himself in a confrontation with a police officer and the autonomous robots backing him up.”

During a recent update, the Code 8 team thanked the backers of the project:

“Guys. You are all amazing. We set out to make $200k and our wildest expectation was that we might surpass that goal and make a kick ass movie. Well, we have surpassed it. By a lot. In fact, if we launched this morning we would have passed it! We literally don’t have the
words to even begin to thank you all enough!”

Those that back the project will receive some awesome rewards, which includes signed posters,
apparel, tickets to various premieres (Toronto, Los Angeles, and Vancouver), and backers even got the chance to pay to be an extra in the film.

Stephen Amell is best known for playing Oliver Queen in Arrow. He will also star in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, which will be released on June
3rd, 2016.

Robbie Amell is best known for his role as Ronnie Raymond in The Flash.

The campaign has now closed, but stay tuned for more details on the film’s release and for some more updates!
