Stephen King’s ‘It’ Reboot Release Date

After more than a year of silence, earlier this week, some exciting news was released about the remake of Stephen King’s It.  Warner Bros has announced the film will hit theaters on September 8, 2017 and production for the film is expected to begin in late June of this year. Several sources have reported this in formation as well as that the film is expected to be released in two parts.pennywise3

Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) was originally on board to direct but, reportedly backed out due to creative differences. This caused significant delays in the project and it was unclear if the film would ever actually be made. Andres Muscietti (Mama) has taken over the director role.

Based on the 1986 horror novel by Stephen King, the original 1990 TV miniseries followed a group social outcasts who, as kids, are forced to band together to face their greatest fears and the demon that lives inside the form of a child-killing clown known as Pennywise. 30 years after conquering their fears and the clown, they are called back to fight him once again.

The original miniseries starred some familiar names including Richard Masur, Annette O’Toole, Harry Anderson, Richard Thomas, Seth Green and the late John Ritter and Jonathan Brandis. Tim Curry masterfully played the role of Pennywise who, to this day, many still consider the most terrifying character in cinema history (as someone who has a very intense fear of clowns, I would have to agree).

The Revenant‘s Will Poulter was originally slotted to play Pennywise for the reboot, but has reportedly backed out. If only Tim Curry could reprise the role. Curry is currently involved with filming for a remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (as the Criminologist, not as Dr. Frank-N-Furter) so, hey, it could happen!

Are you excited (or terrified) for the upcoming It remake?
